The College’s Admissions Board oversees the application and selection procedure.
The PPE programme falls within VU Amsterdam’s excellence programme. Consequently, admission to our PPE programme is selective (see admission requirements), with a cap of 180 students. Both Dutch and international students are welcome to apply. The John Stuart Mill College is committed to non-discrimination, and will admit students of any race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status or physical disability.
Our ‘early bird’ application deadline is February 17th 2017. We aim to inform you within two weeks whether you are (conditionally) accepted or rejected, or whether an additional interview is needed before we can make our decision. From February 20th onwards we will continue to process incoming applications until all 180 available places are filled. Applications are accepted until April 1st for students from outside the EU and until May 1st for students from the Netherlands and other EU countries.
Students’ demonstrated capacities at the secondary level will provide a strong indication of success in the PPE programme. Prospective students’ will also be assessed according to how their future academic interests cohere with the PPE programme, and on their ability and motivation to participate in an international, active social community.
In parallel to the consideration of individual students on their personal performance and profile, the Selection Committee also pays attention to the composition of a socially coherent yet diverse cohort of students. This diversity includes diversity in nationality / cultural background. The programme will have a minimum of 25% non-Dutch students and aims for a 50:50 Dutch to non-Dutch enrolment ratio.
