An exclusive masterclass, with Philip Pettit, on the topic of freedom and the state. Philip Pettit is Professor of Politics and Human Values at Princeton University. The ZuidAs Masterclass enables students and faculty staff to interact with Pettit on his recent writings.
About Philip Pettit and the masterclass
On May 11th the first ZuidAs Masterclass takes place at VU Amsterdam. At the ZuidAs Masterclass a distinguished political philosopher discusses his work with students. Philip Pettit (Princeton and ANU) talks about freedom and the state with students. Philip Pettit is one of the most prominent political philosophers of our times and is the author of many books, including Republicanism: A Theory of Freedom and Government, The Economy of Esteem (with Geoffrey Brennan) and Just Freedom: A Moral Compass for a Complex World. The annual event is an initiative of the Amsterdam Centre for Political Thought.

The Amsterdam Centre for Political Thought is a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The departments of History, Law, Philosophy, Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Amsterdam and of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the Duitsland Instituut Amsterdam are affiliated with the Centre.
The Centre is generously funded and supported by ACCESS EUROPE, the Department of Political Science of the University of Amsterdam, and by the bachelor program Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Prof. Martin van Hees (dean John Stuart Mill College) and prof. Ben Crum (PPE teaching staff) are part of the executive committee of the centre.
For whom / how to participate?
