Macroeconomics and Labor Economics


Björn Brügemann (1974) is an Associate Professor of Economics at VU Amsterdam. He graduated from the University of Bonn as Diplom-Volkswirt in 1999 and completed his Ph.D. in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004.Before joining VU Amsterdam in 2011, he held the position of Assistant Professor of Economics at Yale U niversity.

His research interests lie in the macroeconomics of labour markets and the political economy of labour market institutions. In recent work he has studied the link between wage determination and labour market volatility, the private efficiency of separation decisions, the welfare effects of short-time compensation, and the system of employer-provided health
insurance in the US.

He has published in leading economics journals (Economic Journal, Journal of the European Economic Association, Review of Economic Dynamics).
